Pentax seems to have gone with Apple’s less is more idea for box design. Nice.
Inside the box…
Japanese manual & Menu Reference. (My bilingual friends wince. They are going to be pestered a lot during the next few weeks.)
The camera.
Just plugged in the battery charger…
Hey, that looks like the same type battery I have for my K10D. I could save several hundred yen on a replacement battery if I got a 645D – real bargain 🙂
Really, that seems like a very cool piece of gear, and I look forward to see your results with it. You going to retire the 67II? Would be a shame.
Yes, I wonder the same… No more P67II images on the site? I’m currently on the lookout for a nice condition P67II body 🙂
Vive Le Film !

Janne & Rick,
The 67II is not going into retirement. I plan on using both cameras. I will shoot mainly with the 645D but when I know everything is perfect I’ll also take shots with 67II. In these cases I can use the 645D similar to polaroids when shooting film in the studio. This also means that I will still have a physical archive of my images. (Just in case there is an electromagnetic pulse!)
Chris
Congrats- you’re one of the first with this camera I think. We’re eager to hear your thoughts on what works and doesn’t work with this MF-D system.
By the way: what’s your practical, technical experience of using MF film for strobe shooting? Specifically, is there something akin to reciprocity error for film when using strobes? I usually use a digital camera for that, but I’d like to try using my P67 for a small project of mine.
I find using film (35mm or medium format) with strobes is tricky. In the studio it was no problem to meter correctly as my flashmeter would sync with the Pocketwizards and fire the strobes. The tricky part is balancing and shaping the light without being able to see the results instantly. This is why for the fashion type studio shoots I have done it was great to have my friend Eboh setting up the lights and checking the results with his digital camera before both he and I switched to film.
Don’t know of anything akin to reciprocity error when using strobes. Flash sync speed with the 67II was 1/30 of a second. The lights I used were strobes and therefore shouldn’t have a color cast.
Janne: The batteries are not the same as the K10D. They are the same as the K-7 (and very probably subsequent Pentax DSLRs).
congratulations for having the camera.
Congrats Chris,
I’m really interested in how large prints (30″x40″) from this camera will compare to the 67. Also interested in how well the 67 lenses perform on high-rez digital. Please keep us posted !

Dare I ask how much this set you back?!
I got it from Amazon Japan for 848,000 yen with 10% back in points. The 10% back has finished, but they’ve reduced the price to a similar amount. You can see it here
